Executive Director

Rapid City, South Dakota

Job Summary:
Journey On’s Executive Director is the key management leader of the organization. 

The Executive Director is responsible for working with the Board of Directors to fulfill the mission of the organization; developing resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization; working collaboratively with program directors to strengthen the operations of the organization; providing overall administration of the organization; and developing/maintaining effective community partnerships in support of the organization’s mission and programs.  

The Executive Director position is a full-time salaried position.  The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000.  Final salary offers will be commensurate with experience.  Benefits include paid time off only.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Responsible for fundraising and fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of Journey On’s capacity and legitimacy by working closely with other public and private organizations in the community.
  • Responsible for marketing and communication strategies to expand external understandings of the organization’s mission and programs. 
  • Responsible, with program directors, for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
  • Responsible for supporting existing staff members, including scheduling, payroll, professional development, and personnel policy administration. 
  • Responsible for all other duties assigned by the Board of Directors. 

Qualifications:

The executive director will be thoroughly committed to Journey On’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

  • Three or more years senior nonprofit management experience.
  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to staff, community partners, donors, and members of the broader community.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff; to coach, manage, and develop high-performance teams,
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including partner agencies, funders, and community leaders.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, policy development, conflict resolution, and task facilitation.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
